Basia Belz, owner of Vivid Salon, does more than give her clients fabulous hair, she gives back to the community.

In addition to her hair color expertise, Belz is known for her fundraising and awareness events for cancer causes, her participation in the Penguin Plunge for the Amelia Park Children’s Museum, and her efforts to end bullying.

In her role as a Unify Against Bullying board member, Belz is chairing the organization’s Cut-A-Thon on April 30.

Belz is seeking hair salon owners and their teams who are interested in helping to make a difference in the fight against bullying. The salons will donate proceeds from haircuts, blowouts, and styling to the anti-bullying organization. Some salons will even offer temporary pink hair color — pink is the signature color of Unify Against Bullying – to customers that day.

In addition, each salon will add its own fun activities and promotions for the event and some salon owners can choose the option to host the fundraiser for the month of April.

Salons who wish to participate should contact Belz at the salon, 99 Elm St., at 564-0062 or email her at basiauab@aol.com.

Unify Against Bullying is a tax-exempt organization dedicated to bringing an end to bullying through the celebration of true diversity. To achieve this mission, Unify provides grants to students, teachers, parents and organizations dedicated to bringing an end to bullying. One of Unify’s core missions is to inspire youth of all ages and ignite their ideas on how to prevent or reduce bullying.

“It’s a fun day for a great cause, and everyone leaves the salon feeling and looking fabulous, each in their own unique way. We love how each salon is embracing Unify Against Bullying and being creative in their vision for the Cut-A-Thon,” said Unify Executive Director Christine Maiwald.

Unify’s high school students attend events and help educate their communities on the different resources available. The organization also coordinates programs where high school students educate their younger peers on the value of celebrating our differences. The organization seeks like-minded students, individuals and Organizations who are in line with their mission and award micro-grants to them through an online application process.

The “Unify Selfie Challenge” is a social media effort that raises awareness to the silence associated with bullying. It has been completed in all 50 states and over 56 countries globally. Even celebrities such as Lily Reinhart, who plays Betty on “Riverdale,” have participated. Unify also creates and produces an annual all-inclusive fashion show which celebrates everyone’s uniqueness.
